Winter Dates

Back to Articles

Embark on wintry adventures, rock around the Christmas tree and cosy up by the fire with our festive top 10 for winter.

Movie Day

What do your favorite movies say about you? What movies have you always wanted to see? Schedule a movie day where you each bring a movie and then argue which is better, or be more peaceable and agree on a movie marathon. Time to rock out those trilogies... (constant food a necessity for such inactive winter days).

Country House Cuisine

Find a special stately home or castle that will make a glorious setting for a fancy lunch. Take a drive into the country (headscarves and hollywood sized sunglasses are mandatory) and take time over your menu or afternoon tea before heading outside to enjoy the grounds. Here's a place to start

Everything Winter

Spend an afternoon gathering leaves, branches and pine cones to decorate your houses for Winter. Stop by the market to pick out your Christmas Tree, candles and fairy lights. Then it's time to make your homes more christmassy. Put the christmas music on, start the Christmas cake and sample the mulled wine before heading out to watch The Turning on of the Lights.

Christmas Party

Christmas season is the time to bring out the socialite in you. It's the only time of year you get to have parties for no reason, look like you just won an oscar and invite a bunch of people you never normally would never speak to. 'Tis the season to be jolly, so gather together with your friends and host a glittering party. You'll get to meet all the guests who are friends of friends of friends and have every reason to be very welcoming.

Fiery fiery night

Take that old BBQ or fire pit, some kindling, wood and lighter fluid out on a date. A wonderful person and marshmallows are optional. Drive to a good view (a cityscape at night/beach at sunrise) and set up 'camp'. Things to remember: warm clothes, blankets, mulled cider, yummy things to eat and not starting a forest fire.

Bumps and Bruises

Yes it's ice-skating time! What better way to break the ice than to fall all over it! Go, look silly, laugh a lot, hold onto each-other for all you're worth and maybe you'll be still holding on when the ice melts. Cute hat, scarf, gloves and pink nose: essential.

Shop til you Drop

Whether you love shopping or not, this season requires a brush with commerce. It's not always easy buying gifts for all those relatives of the opposite gender. So why not enlist the help of a friendly girl or guy to get inside the psyche of the other team? Break up the day with well earned coffees and lunches and you'll have a winning day in more ways than one.

Carols, Choirs and Pantos

If there's one thing Brits have in abundance it's cathedrals. Check out your local cathedral for it's Christmas repertoire and get in the festive spirit by caroling or concerting. If that's a little too traditional for your taste, another christmas tradition may work. Go booing and hissing at this years local panto.

Auld Lang Syne

New Years is the greatest time to invite someone to join you for a memorable night. It's also an even better chance to introduce your date to your 'old acquaintance' who are not forgot (aka friends/family). Whether its a cosy dinner party, a wild house-party or a trip to Trafalgar Square, include a little romance this side of midnight and the other side may truly make for a Happy New Year!

Treasure Hunt

Forget the stockings, go instead on a wild goose chase hunting for your would-be stocking treasure. Preparation needed. You'll need to plot where to hide your treasures and leave clues at each point to find them. The further afield and the more random people involved the better. Watch with glee as you chauffeur your date around the English countryside looking for socks and chocolate coins...
